Round 1

THE PICK IS IN....

1) Jacksonville Jaguars - Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan

Aidan Hutchinson is the best, most NFL ready pass rusher in this class and he would improve this bad defensive line.  Hutchinson has an above average first step allowing him to quickly get to the quarterback and also has great recognition against the run.  He has a great motor and ability to keep up with the play even when it gets to the next level which is one of the reasons he is at number 2.

2) Detroit Lions -  Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

The Lions secondary is one of the worst in the league and although guys like Jerry Jacobs and Amani Oruwariye showed good potential, they both got injured. Also, Jeff Okudah still hasn’t developed into the star corner he was supposed to be so they truly need to address this hole.  Opposing teams had a 101.6 rating against Detroit’s defense but if they can get a true lockdown corner along with developing Jacobs and Oruwariye then the secondary can significantly improve.  Gardner is able to play in both zone and man schemes, has good vision and anticipation when in coverage which is why he never allowed a touchdown in college, and he also does a very good job of getting hands on receivers to disrupt routes.

3) Houston Texans - Evan Neal, T, Alabama

The Texans had the 29th ranked offensive line with their highest tackle having a 59.5 PFF rating and if they truly want to build this team around Davis Mills then they need to address their awful offensive line.  They signed experienced interior lineman in A. J. Cann and Scott Quessenberry so drafting the No. 2 tackle in the draft would make a lot of sense.

4) New York Jets - Derek Stingley, CB, LSU

The Jets are drafting Kyle Hamilton with the 4th pick in the draft and Derek Stingley would be another great addition because the Jets cornerbacks collectively allowed a 71.8% completion rate on throws into their coverage last season which ranked 31st amongst cornerback groups. Stingley possesses good speed and recovery speed to quickly get back in phase with the receiver. He is a very fluid athlete with the ability to quickly sink his hips while showing seamless hip swivel and displays very good tackling in the open field.

5) New York Giants - Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

The Giants really need an edge rusher and Travon Walker is a fantastic athlete who had one of the best combine performances and has some of the most potential in this draft.  Some scouts believe he could be picked in the top 3 or even 1st overall but because he is more of a run defender he’s a bit stiff as a rusher in terms of his lower body, not allowing his explosiveness to really shine through often enough.

6) Carolina Panthers - Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

The Panthers traded for Sam Darnold last offseason in an attempt to fill their hole at quarterback but that ended in disaster and they then ended up signing Cam Newton again which also ended terribly.  They also weren’t able to acquire Deshawn Watson from the Texans this offseason and if they don’t address a quarterback in this draft Matt Rhule could go on and have another 5 win season or worse, potentially putting himself on the hot seat.

7) New York Giants (via CHI) - Ikem Ekwonu, T, NC State

The Giants offensive line was ranked 30th in the league last season and it showed because Daniel Jones over the past three seasons hasn’t played more than 15 games and took 22 sacks in 11 games last season and 45 in 14 games the season before.  Ikem Ekwonu is one of the best tackles in this draft.  Ekwomu possesses an unbelievable combination of size, power and athletic ability making it easy for him to block guys even at the next level.

8) Atlanta Falcons - Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh

The Falcons just traded Matt Ryan to the Colts and although they signed Marcus Mariota I do not believe he has the ability to be a true starter in this league which is why drafting Kenny Pickett, the most NFL ready quarterback in this class, makes sense.  Many scouts believe that Pickett’s small hands could be an issue in the NFL because of playing in the different elements and they could cause ball security issues but that is one the only negative things that scouts say about him and with Pickett playing half his games in a dome in Atlanta he wouldn’t have as many issues.

9) Seattle Seahawks (via DEN) Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon

The Seahawks 33 sacks on the season ranked 25th in the league and that number needs to improve in order for them to be competitive.  Kayvon Thibodeaux is one of the top 5 players in this draft and getting him at 9 would be a steal for the Seahawks.  Thibodeaux possesses great potential and before last season started was seen as the top prospect but as the season progressed his passion for the game came into question because he didn’t develop as much as teams hoped which is why he is being picked at 9.

10) New York Jets (via SEA) - Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State

The Jets drafted Elijah Moore in the second round last season and he started developing into a solid WR but that is the only real target Zach Wilson has after the Jets missed out on Tyreek Hill.  Wilson is debatably the top WR in this class because of his good hands and his ability to make a man miss.  He also has great lateral quickness shown by his 4.38 40 yard dash.

11) Washington Commanders - Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

The Washington Commanders need a safety and Hamilton is the top safety and one of the top prospects in this draft.  He is a fantastic tackler and possesses a rare length and movement combination allowing him to fly across the field and make big plays like he did against Florida State.  Hamilton at 11 would be a great value pick and would help improve this defense.

12) Minnesota Vikings - Jermaine Johnson, DE, Florida State

The Vikings are shopping Danielle Hunter and if they do end up trading him before the draft they need to fill this gap in their defensive line.  Johnson has been climbing draft boards because of his fantastic showing at the senior bowl.  He has long arms allowing him to strike first and take control of blocks while also recognizing what the offense is doing and how to answer it.  He has good explosion and movement in space.  Does well moving side to side, as well as accelerating after changing directions.

13) Houston Texans (via CLE) - Drake London, WR, USC

The Texans are planning on building around Davis Mills so drafting Evan Neal at 4 would help protect him and drafting Drake London to line up across from Brandin Cooks would give him some legit targets.  Giving Mills these targets and some protection will help the Texans truly evaluate him and see if he could be their franchise quarterback.  London has fantastic potential because of his great hands and ability to get open even.  He is a good route runner and has good body control for his size which makes it a lot easier for the quarterback to get the ball in his hands.  He would be a top 10 pick if it weren’t for his injury history.

14) Baltimore Ravens - Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

The Baltimore Ravens need a cornerback and Trent McDuffie is a very willing tackler and a versatile defender who can play in both man and zone schemes. He plays with vision and anticipation in zones which allows him to jump routes and get more pass breakups.  If the Ravens can put together a solid defense they could have a solid chance of making the playoffs.  Now that they have to play Deshaun Watson and a good Browns squad twice a year, if they don’t address their defensive needs they will likely miss the playoffs again.

15) Philadelphia Eagles (via MIA) - George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

Although the Eagles just re-signed Derek Barnett they are still in need of a young, solid edge because Brandon Graham is 33 and Barnett isn’t the game changer he looked like he could be during his first two seasons.  Assuming that Graham is retiring in the future and his limited snap counts because of his age, George Karlaftis would be a great pick at 15 for the Eagles.  Drafting Karlaftis would give them an explosive and skilled lineman who can deal with double teams and knows how to fight through the cap and although he doesn’t have the ideal length for an edge his active hands help prevent long armed offensive lineman from getting into his frame early.

16) New Orleans Saints (via PHI) - Charles Cross, T, Mississippi State

After losing Terron Armstead in free agency the Saints knew they needed to make a move to address the tackle position which is why they traded up in this draft.  Charles Cross has the physical ability and potential to be a top-10 pick in this draft so getting him at 16 would be a fantastic pick for the Saints.  Cross plays with tremendous weight distribution and balance to consistently stay centered on defenders from snap to finish.  He also glides in his pass set with excellent range to get to his landmarks balanced and under control to frame up rushers.

17) Los Angeles Chargers - Jordan Davis, DI, Georgia

Jordan Davis stands at 6’6 and weighs 341 pounds with 4.78 speed, what more is there to say?  The Chargers traded for Khalil Mack this offseason to help get Joey Bosa some help and drafting Jordan Davis who is one of a kind in terms of his body type would make that defensive line one of the best, if not the best in the league.   The Chargers are true competitors this season and if they can get a top defensive line in the league along with Derwin James and J.C. Jackson in the secondary they have a real shot at getting to the AFC Championship, if not the Superbowl.

18) Philadelphia Eagles (via NO) - Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa

Tyler Linderbaum is the top ranked center in this draft and with Kelce talking about his retirement after every season it is in the Eagles best interest to get a steal in a player like Linderbaum at 19.  He has very good initial quickness, contact balance and body control to consistently stay attached to blocks and although he is said to be undersized he makes up for that with great leg drive and hip mobility which allows him to clamp, explode, releverage and maintain control.

19) New Orleans Saints (via PHI) - Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State

The Saints missed out on Deshawn Watson which saved them a lot of picks and potentially players but they are also left with a “gap” at quarterback.  They signed Jameis Winston to a two year deal hoping that maybe he could be their future quarterback.  With very little at receiving last season Winston had 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions in 7 games which is a massive improvement for Winston who had 30 interceptions just two seasons before.  Adding Olave to the offense with Kamara and maybe Michael Thomas would give Winston the tools he needs to assert himself as a true starting quarterback.  Olave is a good overall athlete who plays fast and consistently gets off the ball quickly at the snap.  He is a very good route runner and uses his body control, core strength and balance to consistently win.

20) Pittsburgh Steelers - Bernhard Raimann, T, Central Michigan

The Steelers offensive line was one of the worst in the league last season ranking 29th.  They re-signed Chukwuma Okorafor as their right tackle but still have a hole at left tackle that they need filled and Bernhard Raimann played left tackle at Central Michigan.  Raimann has very good athletic ability, body control and weight distribution to stay centered and balanced on blocks.  Pair that with his crafty use of hands and he is a great pick to be their starting left tackle next season.

21) New England Patriots - Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

The Patriots had a very solid defense during the regular season and some debated that it was a top 3 defense in the league but when they got to the playoffs the defense was quickly exposed by Josh Allen and the Bills. The patriots are lacking at linebacker and Lloyd who has good speed and range would be a good fit for this defense.  He doesn’t false step and is always moving in the right direction, gaining ground toward the line of scrimmage.  He is also excellent at beating blocks in space which helps him get more tackles and limits big play potential.

22) Green Bay Packers (via LV) - Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama

The Packers are obviously in need of a wide receiver one after trading away Devante Adams and Jameson Williams would be a top 15 pick if it weren’t for him tearing his ACL in the national championship game.  Williams has great acceleration and long speed and when you pair that with Rodgers arm strength and accuracy they could be a deadly duo.  He is also very dangerous on double moves because of his ability to constantly stop and start during his routes which makes him a matchup nightmare.

23) Arizona Cardinals - Devonte Wyatt, DI, Georgia

The Cardinals don’t have any true starting caliber defensive interior lineman which is why Devonte Wyatt who performed great on one of the best college football defenses ever would be a great fit here.  Wyatt is a 6’3 300 pound tackle who is explosive off the line and has great flexibility allowing him to adjust to the open gap and not get stood up.  The Cardinals looked like they could be the real deal last season but their defense struggled a lot late in the season so adding a few more pieces could help them be true competitors.

24) Dallas Cowboys - Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia

The Cowboys drafted Micah Parsons in last year's draft and it was probably one of the best value picks in the entire draft but, they could still use some help at linebacker because Vander Esch is consistently injured and Parsons is lined up as an edge on a decent amount of plays.  Dallas has a good offense and if they can build a solid defense they can definitely compete in the NFC.

25) Buffalo Bills - Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas

The Buffalo Bills have Stefon Diggs as their WR1 but he isn’t the big throw up and get it kinda guy that Burks is.  Giving Josh Allen another weapon in that already deadly offense would make it nearly impossible for any team to stop them.  He is a smooth athlete and shows off very good burst out of breaks and with the ball in his hands.  He can be used on handoffs like Deebo Samuel and is also dangerous at all three levels of routes because of his speed.  Because he has good balance and is 6’3 225 he is also difficult to tackle for smaller defensive backs.

26) Tennessee Titans - Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan

Tennessee is looking to re-sign AJ Brown this offseason who is 6’1 225 and giving Tannehill a smaller more agile receiver like Skyy Moore who broke an FBS-high 26 tackles last year.  Moore is 5’10 195 with 4.41 speed who is great after the catch.  He has good hands only dropping 3 balls on 125 attempts last season and he is able to adjust for catches at all angles and come down with the ball.

27) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Zion Johnson, G, Boston College

After Ali Marpet’s retirement the Buccaneers need to draft someone to replace him and Zion Johnson being the top guard in this draft would be a perfect fit for this offensive line.  Johnson has impressive mobility in his lower half with a consistently wide, strong base and tight elbows to leverage blocks, sustain and maximize his power output.  This helped him be a great run blocker in college and he should be able to translate that to the NFL.

28) Green Bay Packers - Trevor Penning, T, Northern Iowa

The Packers need to address their offensive line in this draft because of the constant injuries they face.  David Bakhtiari hasn’t played a full season in 3 years and coming off a torn acl that he continually had setbacks with is the reason they need to draft a tackle here.  Trevor Penning was a three year starter at Northern Iowa and played both right and left tackle and was able to also play guard so he is a very versatile lineman which is good for the team with constant injuries to the line.  Penning has the quickness and play strength to operate in any scheme and he uses a mixture of crafty hand techniques to keep rushers guessing making it a lot harder to get around him.

29) Kansas City Chiefs (via MIA) - Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

The Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill and need a true WR1.  Juju showed the last two seasons that he can’t be a true WR1 in this league so drafting a Wide receiver is their top priority.  Dotson has great hands and is a very good route-runner who understands how to tempo his routes to keep defenders off balance.  He consistently stays tight on his route breaks and knows how to throttle down and stay friendly to the quarterback versus zone coverages.

30) Kansas City Chiefs - Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson

The Chiefs ranked 18th overall at secondary last season and it showed when their secondary completely broke down against the Bengals in the AFC championship game which is why drafting Andrew Booth, who many scouts believe could go top 20, at 30 would be a steal.  Booth has loose, fluid hips allowing him to open up and run when in coverage.

31) Cincinnati Bengals - Kaiir Elam, CB, Florida

You may think that the Bengals biggest need at 31 is offensive line but they were very active in free agency this offseason and signed La’el Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras so their biggest target in this draft should be cornerback.  Kaiir Elam is aggressive and physical enough to bump receivers off their line and uses his hands well to fight for position.  He also shows the top-end speed to keep up downfield which is important when playing Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen in the playoffs.

32) Detroit Lions (via LAR) - David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan

The Lions drafting Gardner at 2 and Ojabo at 32 would show their true push to rebuild their defense.  Some may think taking Ojabo in the first round isn’t smart considering they have the number 34 pick but if they draft him in the first year they can wait until he is fully healthy before they have him try and play again and they will still have him for 4 healthy years because of the fifth year option, whereas they would only have him for 3 healthy years if they drafted him with the 34th pick.  Ojabo was a top 20 pick before his injury so drafting him at 32 and hopefully getting 4 healthy years out of him would be a steal.
